Kings to Face Caps in Tough Away Game

The Los Angeles Kings are set to face the Washington Capitals at the Verizon Center in DC on February 16 at 7 PM EST.

After just suffering a shutout loss to the New Jersey Devils, Sutter and his Kings need a big W to get back on their feet and continue their winning season.

Kings are on top in the Pacific division of the Western Conference, while the Caps are on top of the Metropolitan division of the Eastern Conference. Both teams have very similar stats, leading to a pretty solid game. Kings have played 55 games. Caps have played 54. Out of the Kings 55 games played, they have won 33, lost 19, and have 3 shootout losses in overtime. Out of the 54 games played, Caps have won 40, lost 10, and have 4 shootout losses in overtime. Caps have won five games, lost one, and lost one in OT to Pacific division teams, while the Kings have won eight games and lost four to Metropolitan division teams.

To see goalies with such comparable records play against each other will definitely make for a good game. Kings’ Jonathan Quick has a .918 save percentage compared to the Caps’ Holtby with a .926 save percentage.

The key to this game will be determined by the need for the Kings to control Caps’ left wing Alex Ovechkin. Ovechkin is first in the league with 35 goals. His knack for hat tricks could possibly trip up the Kings, potentially leading to another loss on the road.

If able to contain Ovechkin and use Dustin Brown to their full advantage, Kings could be coming out of DC with a win.
